5. Marty Thompson
1. THIS CHILD WAS TRUSTWORTHY & SAFE.
*
A high score suggests you could count on them to make safe & responsible choices, even when a guide/leader was not watching. They recognized the importance of making smart choices and avoiding unhealthy risks in a wilderness environment. A low score suggests that the child acted recklessly - they did not follow rules and showed little or no awareness for how their actions could impact themselves or others.

2. THIS CHILD WAS RESPECTFUL.
*
A high score suggests they showed respect in the way they spoke to/about other people. They respected the wild places we traveled through and the wild creatures we interacted with - from large animals to snakes to bugs. They respected gear - their own and others - and did not do things which could cause it to get damaged or lost. A low score suggests that this child was disrespectful to other people, took interest in harassing/killing animals/bugs they encountered, and showed little or no care for property - their own or others'.

3. THIS CHILD HAS GRIT.
*
A high score suggests that this child showed an inner strength necessary to be successful on multi-day wilderness expeditions. They could handle long days on the river when our intended campsites were taken, took on the surprise storm with a smile on their face, and got through the long, hot, hikes without complaint. A low score suggests that the child was unprepared for the unexpected. They dealt poorly with anything that made them uncomfortable - related to weather events, physical exertion, or otherwise.

4. THIS CHILD SEEKS PERSONAL GROWTH.
*
A high score suggests that this child is commited to the GOALS philosophy of making this experience "more than just a river trip." They use their journal, contribute to readings and discussions, and push themselves mentally and physically when opportunities arise to step out of their comfort zone. They're a different person at the conclusion of their expedition than they were when it started. A low score indicates that they have little interest in anything other than having fun - and might even de-rail discussions that they are not interested in.

5. THIS CHILD WAS A BENEFIT TO THE GROUP.
*
A high score suggests that this child was a team player when it came to helping out in camp. They were helpful in the fire line and even asked how they could help when packing up camp. They were a strong member of their camp team, and contributed to group discussions around the fire. They clearly saw the experience as "more than just a river trip." If you saw their name on the roster of a future GOALS expedition, you'd be thrilled to have them involved. A low scores suggests poor attitudes or unwillingness to help; lack of interest in GOALS discussions; laziness and apathy. If you saw their name on the roster of a future GOALS expedition, you'd be nervous and disappointed to have them involved.
