Suggested Packing List

The GOALS suggested packing list is separated based on expedition length. Simply click on the packing list below to download a .pdf that can be printed and used to cross off each item while packing.

A few things to keep in mind:

  1. Weight Limits.
If your expedition includes a flight (esp. a small plane flight), please be aware of weight restrictions.

  2. International Additions.

GOALS international expeditions may need additional items - including copies of passports and other important travel documents.

  3. Weather.
Our suggestions may change slightly if the forecast calls for 7 straight days of 100-degree heat vs. a few days of cool, wet weather. Please check the local forecast for the region you’re traveling before you pack.

  4. What NOT to bring.
    - Phones should stay behind. They can be left in the vehicle when we launch on the river, but will not accompany us, and should not be relied on as a camera.
    - Alcohol or illegal substances. Anyone underage caught illegally possessing or using these substances will be removed from a youth program immediately, and will have a difficult conversation with their parents about who will pay for their helicopter ride out of the canyon.  It's not something we take lightly.
    - Anything valuable that can’t get wet or sandy.

What to Pack In?
We recommend that you pack all of your belongings into a large gym-style duffle bag with a zipper at the top. There’s no need for fancy backpacks, and hard luggage can be very difficult to fit into dry bags.
Prior to launch, each GOALS participant will be provided with a large personal dry bag to use during their expedition.  Most of your items will be packed in this bag, and it will be stowed on a gear raft each day. A smaller personal dry bag will also be provided - a bit larger than a shoe box.  This bag is intended to carry the little things you will need to access during the day (sunscreen, lip balm, a camera, medications, rain gear, etc.).

In addition to dry bags, GOALS will also provide each participant with a sleeping pad and tent to use during their expedition. Sleeping bags are generally not provided.
