The GOALS Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Virtual River Expedition
Welcome! You’ve been invited to the first ever GOALS virtual river expedition. This has been designed to:
Be fun and informative - teaching you about our expeditions and the lessons kids learn in the wilderness.
Provide creative ideas for quarantine activities - make the “right decision”, and you’ll be rewarded with fun information and ideas.
Help GOALS to navigate the pandemic - make the “wrong decision”, and you’ll be asked to correct your error in judgement with a tax-deductible donation. Stay inside and give something!
Our only ask is that you stay on the team for the duration of our expedition (it is 10 days total, so your trip length will depend on which day you joined) - and that you bring at least one new team member into the group each day. Here we go!
Welcome to Day 1!
We’ll start our adventure in Utah’s Desolation Canyon. Day 1 in “Deso” is one of our most exciting Day 1’s - it begins with a small plane flight from Green River, UT to our dirt landing strip on a plateau above the river. This offers an exciting birds-eye view of the river we’ll float through - checking out the rapids we’ll paddle, the beaches we’ll camp on, etc. Enjoy the video and photos below to get a sense of just how beautiful and exciting the flight into Desolation Canyon can be.
The adventure begins.
After landing above the river and meeting our guides, we begin a short hike down to the boat ramp - it generally takes a bit less than an hour. About half-way through our hike, we come across a large rattlesnake - native to the area - curled up about 8 feet off the trail. The snake has sensed our vibrations, and has moved itself off the trail offering us a place to walk by safely without disturbing it.
