GOALS Tributary Event: A night with longtime river explorers Loie Evans and Buzz Belknap

  • Evergreen Fire Rescue Administration Building - Auditorium 1802 Bergen Parkway Evergreen, CO, 80439 United States (map)

Join us for a night of entertaining stories and invaluable living history, as Evergreen residents and long-time river explorers Loie Evans and Buzz Belknap share their experiences growing up on and around the Colorado River.  As children of the famous photographer and map maker Bill Belknap - creator of the original Grand Canyon River map - Loie and Buzz enjoyed unique interactions and relationships with Grand Canyon pioneers including Georgie White, Buzz Holmstrom, and many others.  Their childhood memories include river experiences that range from "running my first rapid on an air mattress at age 6" to "piloting one of the first jet boats up the Grand Canyon at age 16" (in 1960).  They look forward to sharing stories about their lives on the river - including some iconic sections that are now under reservoirs - and insights about what we can all do to enjoy, protect, and preserve the sections of river we're fortunate to navigate today in the American west.  Don't miss this event - it's going to be a highlight of the GOALS non-river season!
