Kids need connections.
We are actively creating a platform for GOALS kids to connect online. To share their fears and their worries. To share positive ideas and observations. To learn. To teach. To connect.
We all have a choice to make. We can view the disruptions that this pandemic will undoubtedly continue to create in an entirely negative light, or we can recognize the unusual opportunities it generates. At GOALS, our leaders revere the connections they create for and with the kids they serve each summer during our busy program season. They recognize the positive impacts of these connections - for others, and for themselves. Now - as a result of quarantines that may initially be viewed as exceptionally restrictive, we're all being given the opportunity to stay connected outside of the canyon. This is admittedly new for us, and we'll need the same encouragement and patience from each of you that we give kids trying to pass that all-important "ducky flip test" before they're allowed to paddle into rapids.
To be clear, we are not building a forum to share information about COVID-19. We are not qualified to do so, and would frankly prefer to discuss just about anything else. If kids need to process together, they’ll be given a chance to…and then we’ll move beyond it. Ultimately, our vision is to create an online video chat forum where we can:
share rose, bud, thorns, and appreciations from our day - just as we do around campfires at the end of a day in the canyon.
"assign" readings from our GOALS journals as conversation starters for a chat form scheduled later - much like the readings we share over meals.
bring in "guest speakers" to talk about all things GOALS - rivers, conservation, connections, adventure, etc.
If you'd like to be involved, please fill out the form below. We'll send a link for you to participate, and hope to see you every TUESDAY and FRIDAY at 4pm MST. The link for every Zoom chat will emailed to you in advance of our meeting.
